WELCOME to toren.world

I made this website for my images and text and occasional short docs and artist books that I once made and the work I'm making now.

Atlas of Fire is a multimedia documentary project that organizes stories about our relationship with fire by location — it's a map.

I've carried a camera with me through a number of seasons working as a wildland firefighter in the American West. I've had some confrontation with the element itself but more importantly the time out there to think about fire and the human relationship. This project is not about great conflagrations in the disaster sense. It's about the fires that are used in ancient rituals carried on to this day and in the industrial furnaces that birthed our modern ways, for our cooking and our engines of war — the individual stories that connect to this greater idea that our relationship to fire is what makes us human.

This is everything I made from 2019–2025. The media that I first mentioned. It's the years that I spent confronting the world through the lens when I was about what I could use the camera as a reason to experience. Things changed and my perspective is different now but I achieved what I'd like to think as rare experiences that I catalog there. Where I was and what I did in photographs and writing and experiments in form made across a Montana Winter spent in a home darkroom and organizing photo projects into artist books and editing my three short docs.

As of April 2026 the Atlas of Fire is just getting off the ground. It is ongoing and dispatches go out as the work develops.
